Race against time to save a child in Burkina Faso

A call from Clermont Ferrand requests our help to send a medicine which is vital for the survival of an 11 years old girl

Thanks to the help of Air France Cargo and TAT Express, parcels of medicine coming from all over  France are  sent to ASF Orly headquarter After approval of the Captain and agreement among the controls police and customs, they are assigned to the crews serving the destination most in need. The ASF antennas in Reunion  Island (Saint-Denis) and Guadeloupe (Pointe-à-Pitre) support in-transit shipments..
600 humanitarian organizations benefit from this kind of transport.
Everyday throughout the year, 3 to 5 people from a team of 40 volunteers, put on board an aircraft(s) from 15 to 20 parcels of medical supply. At the headquarter in Orly airport, it is 15 volunteers assisted by an ASF employee who take turns to manage planning and shipments.
In 2010, ASF has sent 10 081 parcels composed mainly of a majority of medicine, small medical equipment and surgical material but also wheelchairs. About fifty stations have benefited from these shipments.

Summer activities - Status report

The months of July and August are usually rather quiet,
However the number of shipments
(dispatches) during the summer of 2011 has been exceptional:
 
1503  parcels of  which 42 wheelchairs for handicapped persons were sent.
 
Burkina faso, Niger, Chad, Madagascar and Haiti were the principal destinations of our shipments :
 - 2.7 tonnes of homogenised milk, that is approximately 500 parcels were sent during three months to Burkina Faso to stem the spread of problems of malnutrition
 - medical and surgical materiel for the rehabilitation of the general hospital of Niamey in Niger
 - specific oxygen extractors for Madagascar
 - nutritional supplements, medicines and other products against cholera for Haiti.
